Original, Aftermarket or Second-Hand? Choosing Car Parts in Ghana
Understand the trade-offs between genuine, aftermarket, refurbished and used parts before you pay.

In this guide
There is no single right condition for every repair. The best choice depends on the component, the vehicle, how long you plan to keep it and the warranty the seller is prepared to offer.
Know what each label means
Original or genuine parts are supplied under the vehicle maker’s brand. Aftermarket parts are new components made by another manufacturer. Refurbished parts have been restored, while used parts are taken from another vehicle.
- Prioritise fitment and safety for braking, steering and suspension.
- Ask who made the part, not only whether it is ‘original’.
- Compare warranty, return terms and total fitting cost.
Make the choice visible
A useful listing should name the condition clearly and show the actual item. If the information is incomplete, contact the vendor before making the trip and take your mechanic’s advice for safety-critical components.
Put the guide into practice
Use accurate details, ask about anything uncertain and confirm the final arrangement directly with the seller.
